Just wanted to give everyone a heads-up that we're making some changes to our backend authentication system on Winamp.com (more information to come). As a result, we will now require Winamp.com users to have a password that contains between 6-16 characters.

If you happen to have a password that's outside of this character range, you will be receiving an e-mail indicating that you need to update your password prior to Wednesday, May 6th 2009. If you do not update before then, you will no longer have access to that account.

Just to clarify, the update will only effect your Winamp.com password, and not your Winamp Forum, or Developer Network passwords.

Thanks!

Password Tips

Your password should be easy for you to remember, but not for others to guess. If your password can be easily guessed, your account is not secure.

To protect your account, change your password to incorporate these easy rules:

1) Make your password at least 6 characters in length (but not longer than 16).
2) Create a password that includes a combination of numbers and letters (e.g., lx556w or beljar2 or 12hat93).
3) Do NOT use your first name, your screen name, or obvious words that are found in a dictionary.

For additional protection, change your password regularly.

One part genius. Three parts llama. And a sprinkling of corporate AOL. That's what Winamp is all about.
