Winamp 5.57 is Now Available!

Winamp... the Ultimate Media Player... just got better.
We thought we'd NOT be an Ebenezer and give Winamp users a holiday present... the new Winamp 5.57!

What's New? Video!
Winamp PRO 5.57 includes native video support including H.264 encoded video for the most popular file formats (MP4, MKV, & AVI). There are also updates to the Media Library that improve video metadata and organization. Now you can use Winamp PRO to manage both your music & video collections, while still enjoying all of the customizations you made to your player with skins, plug-ins, & visualizations.

There are also a lot of improvements to the standard free Winamp Media Player...

Windows 7:
Now fully Windows 7 compliant including new Win7 preview capabilities with the new Aero Interface.

New Online Services:
Which means new ways to use Winamp! We have worked with a few partners to launch some Winamp customized Online Services (web apps). These new services offer one click access to tour listings, tickets, music downloads and lyrics. Thanks to our partners Tour Tracker, Metrolyrics and 7digital, as you are listening to individual tracks, Winamp will automatically display concert tickets, lyrics and download information. 3. Hey guys, you might also want to check the logic on the download page... While my OS was detected as Windows, it was still shown as Windows XP, when I'm using Windows 7. Something you may want to look into.

4. I love the Windows 7 compatibility feature! Often have I wished for the aero preview to work with Winamp -- and now it does!

On note, though: The Playlist Generator that allows to "Play songs like ____" failed the first time I tried it and now refuses to start up even after downloading the newer version. Is there some sort of fix for this or plan to fix this?

6. i try to sign into facebook for the orgler thing, and it just won't sign in. keeps signing me out of AOL. not sure what that has to do with anything but. i can't get it to work :(

7. Installed 5.57 from within Winamp ... and now "bust"! New version will not restart, showing message "Unable to Locate Component - This application has failed to start because MSVCR90.dll was not found. Re-installing the application may fix this problem." But re-installing did not help. Help!!!!!

8. I am having the problem of starting up this version. I had to uninstall and do a clean install still no way. Where is the fix for this thing?

9. Going back to old.. Installed it 3 times now and it crashes every time after few minutes...

10. I have Vista and can't get past the initial setup. When I click "finish" it crashes every time; since I can't launch the program without completing the setup, I can't use it. Where can I get the older version back?

11. Still have the "blinking problem" with Win7 64, the one where Media Library starts blinking upon completing a CD rip. I'm also unable to specify operation system on my own on the download page.

12. It does work for me, but whenever I open Winamp, the following message appears:

(title) ml_pmp_window: winamp.exe - Entry Point Not Found
(msg) The procedure entry point ?ndestring_release@@YAXPA_W@Z could not be located in the dynamic link library nde.dll.

After clicking "OK", Winamp works perfectly. It's kind of annoying, though. And reinstalling Winamp doesn't help. I'm using Windows Vista with the latest updates.

13. I'm getting a crash on setup in Vista SP2 in elevatorps.dll. Restart and it just goes to setup and then crashses again at the final stage of setup.

14. Ah, deleting that elevatorps.dll fixes the issue for me - no idea what it's for but ho-hum.

15. I have Vista Ultimate 32 bit and I had to go back to the previous version also. The main reason is that the new version can't play my .xm -files right. Uninstalling and then installing again didn't help. The old version (v5.56) works for me every time and new version doesn't. Anyway, thanks for my favorite music player! :)

16. Thank you Sam T for fixing my crashing problem, if anyone else installs the new update only to have Winamp crash on you delete that DLL from your Winamp directory!

17. installer crashed. i have vista 32bit sp2 ultimate. i already had 5.56

installed the new version, answered the questons, clicked finish, and windows said winamp stopped working. tried several times, same result.

uninstalled all winamp stuff via control panel, rebooted, and tried to do a "clean" 5.57 install.

this time it worked. however, all my settings, prefs, etc were lost.

this just goes to show why winamp MUST START TO SUPPORT RATINGS IN TAGS. both reading and writing the POPM frame. please make that the #1 goal of the next version, so the frustrations can end when something doesn't work right.

18. Hi all - had the same crashing programme as everyone else. On Vista, SP2, 32 bit.
- uninstalled & reinstalled Winamp a couple of times now, but still no joy
- cant seem to find the elevatorps.dll on my PC to delete it
- where can i get v5.56 from?

20. Wow!! Deleting the elevatorps.dll file in the winamp directory magically fixed my crashing problem! Thanks a lot Sam T (post 14)!!
