Winamp: Official Supporter of WebM

The latest version of our media player, Winamp 5.58 now officially supports WebM video. What is WebM video you ask? WebM is an open, royalty-free, media file format designed for the web.

WebM video files play directly in your media player or web browser using a new technology called HTML5. No plug-ins are required, but you must install a web browser, or use a media player such as Winamp 5.58 (or later), that supports WebM.

Benefits of WebM:
- Very high quality video
- Great video playback performance, even on older computers
- 100% free and open to everyone
- Supported on popular video sites like YouTube

WebM's file structure is based on the Matroska container. WebM defines the file container structure, video and audio formats. The video streams are compressed with the VP8 video codec, while the audio streams are compressed with Vorbis audio codec.

1. Can you please work on bringing Winamp to the Mac OS X platform? I'm a recent switcher and I terribly miss the MP3 player I've been using since the 90s!

5. can somebody tell me why, when i "upgraded to the winamp 5-whatever my easy to understand screen with 1,200 songs on my easy to access play list has disappeared? i now own 1 song and a crappy little equalizer, ian verry f**king angry about this

6. I have been using Winamp for 5 years now and the latest version is by far the worst... in conjunction with Win 7 the AVI's play upside down & if you reverse the MPEG plsy upside down ..I have managed to fix this with another bit of software ...but come on guys ... I was actually dumb enough to waste 20 bux on the pro version ... this and other very buggy problems as well as the fact that the search {Local Media} is so slow it's a joke ... role on Google Media Player ... sorry guys but Good ol Winamp doe's not cut the mustered anymore. ;O(
