Winamp.com is getting a few "nips & tucks" so we'll have a new sleeker meaner machine of a site to unveil very soon. Here's what's coming ....

The Winamp Client's companion website, Winamp.com, has been redesigned to make it easier to download Winamp, customize your player and get help.

First there will be much better tools for searching and browsing Winamp "Add-ons". You must be wondering what are Add-Ons? Add-ons are the "stuff" that you can add to your Winamp Media Player to customize it - like skins, plug-ins and visualizations. We are now calling these collectively Add-ons, because we are also introducing tools that search across skins, plug-ins, visualizations and online services, see how it is all coming together... Add-ons Search. Pretty cool huh. It will be much easier now to search and browse across the 6,000 plus available Add-ons (there is that word again) with one search term. Look for the new Add-ons search in the search box at the top of the site, you won't be able to miss it.

But wait there is more... since Visualizations are so popular (we have almost 3,000 of them) we have broken them out and given them their own section. They deserve it. Look for their new home in the nav-bar after the release.

The new Winamp.com will also include a completely updated Media Player Help section based on the popular and easy to use wiki reference format. There will be great tools for searching and browsing through the massive library of Winamp help topics, FAQs, tutorials and articles. You will find the new Winamp Media Player Help on the nav-bar too.

For those of you who prefer to speak French, we are releasing an updated version of the Winamp French site as well. Check out fr.winamp.com for the new French Top Artist and Song charts and buy Winamp PRO in French too. Merci Beaucoup :)

Last but not least, the Winamp Media Player Download page has been completely redesigned to more easily help you select the version of Winamp that is right for you (there are so many), the page will even detect your browser's language settings for a more guided download experience.

The unveiling is coming soon.... Visit http://www.winamp.com to check it out!

This is just the beginning ... gear yourself for the bigger and nastier sequel coming soon in December 2009.

Hello to Winamp users. We have been receiving a lot of feedback from you - queries, suggestions and we love them all. Since the number of such feedback is huge, we thought we'd regularly reply your queries through our blog by consolidating them. This is the first one of such posts. If you're submitting feedback to us, please be as specific as possible about your issues, ideas, or comments. The more detailed the feedback, the easier it is for us to respond to it.

MP4 video playback

I am trying to play mp4 video files on my win amp, and am having no success. The audio will play, but not the video. I've installed the latest version of win amp pro. I've looked for a plug in, but there are none. Am I doing something wrong?
I would like to use the winamp for this, for it is by far my favorite player.

The mp4 decoder (h.263) is not bundled with Winamp. We recommend you read the following forum thread for information on plug-ins: http://forums.winamp.com/showthread.php?threadid=155680#mp4v

Winamp for MAC

Hello, i just saw in the net that winamp has a version for mac, and i was even given a link to download "WinAmp 0.71" but i dont see such an application neither a trace on your web page... Do you really support a mac version???

Currently, we don't have a Winamp player for MAC users. We will make sure to let everyone know if a MAC version is released. However, we are launching new features in a few weeks for all our users and specially for those who can't use Winamp because of their operating system. Please do check our website for updates.

Media Library Syncing

I have Winamp installed on 2 computers - the pc at home and my potable laptop. I manage my music through rating and i was wondering if and how i can sync the 2 libraries?

We don't have a media library syncing facility as of now. However, a quick solution is Winamp Remote (http://www.winamp.com/extras/remote/)

Winamp on Vista 64

Unable to install your player on Vista 64-Home Premium?
Compadability issues no fix at windows

Winamp does work in Windows Vista 64 - Home Premium. Winamp is supported on Vista 64 and should install properly. We need more facts to help debug this further. Request you to let us know the following:
1) Is it an official/registered version of Windows 64?
2) Is it fully updated with latest security patches and other updates?
You can try right-clicking the installer, selecting 'properties' > then... compatibility tab > checkmark 'run program as administrator' and 'run this program in compatibility mode for: Win xp sp2'
For quicker response, please make sure you send us your query in a more detailed manner as mentioned in http://forums.winamp.com/showthread.php?threadid=161361#specs. This way we will know the exact problem in a more specified manner.

International Radio Stations

Currently i am trying to listen to some international radio stations on the internet , and winamp is not working, and i know it's not my computer because i have a third 3 rd radio station that is playing ok not through Winamp

We have two catalogues of free radio stations in the form of Online Services - AOL Radio and SHOUTcast Radio in Winamp. Please click on Online Services in Media Library and add SHOUTcast and AOL Radio to your Winamp

DivX playback

I have a lot of divx videos on my computer, and winamp can't either find them or play them, is there something you have that would let me play them and possibly convert them to files that will play on my Ipod?

Go to File->Add to Media Library and choose the folder which has your Divx videos. Then click ok. You can see your video files on the Media Library->Local Media-> Video tab. You can play DivX files only if you have the decoders. Free 3rd party decoders are easily available. Regarding conversion to Mp4 format which can be playable by iPod, you have to download 3rd party encoders for it.

Fonts and style

Please let me know where do I go in Winamp to change The title Winamp to ets say Winamp 5 etc., etc. also to change the font style for for the player as well as the numbers which shows the time of the song as it playing the son list and the background list?

Unfortunately, you can't change the title of your player. However, you can go to Options->Preferences->Playlist to change the font style and size. You can also toggle the time remaining as well as time elapsed by clicking on the time. However, you can't change the font of the time display.

Languages

You added Chinese, Korean and other languages BUT NOT ARABIC CHARACTER BASED LANGUAGES namely Arabic, Swahili, Persian, Afghani, Urdu, Malayan...etc

We want Winamp in all languages, martian if possible :) However, we need translators and we badly need them. If you know anyone who can translate, please write to ben.london@corp.aol.com and we'd surely help you out to translate your favorite player.

Got a problem, and can't find a solution?

If you are experiencing problems that cannot be resolved using any other method , then a clean install may do the trick. Follow these instructions http://forums.winamp.com/showthread.php?postid=1212729#clean to do a clean install of Winamp.

Note: If you are just upgrading to a newer version of Winamp 5.x then you can just install straight on top of the previous version of Winamp 2.x or 5.x (but not Winamp3), thus keeping all your current settings etc.

Few days back, one of our users recommended us a quirky but very pertinent feature - ability to program Winamp to shut down ones computer when the songs on the play list finish being played. We must say, this comes from an ardent music lover who wants to listen to music while sleeping and who doesn't want the computer running all night.

Well, we in Winamp do that most of the time - believe me - sleep, music and work to bring you the best features to enjoy your music. Hence, our developers came out with this feature long back. All you have to do is right click on the stop button and choose your option -
  • * Close Winamp
  • * Standby/Hibernate
  • * Log Off
  • * Shutdown
  • * Restart
Sweet dreams then ... and remember to count Llamas and not those boring sheeps :)

If you haven't already heard about it, there's a very cool Winamp plug-in created by Sanchit Bhatnagar, called MiniTube. It let's you find and play music video's based off of music you're playing in Winamp. You can either use the audio from the video clip, or you can "lip-sync" the song's audio file from your library.

Download the Minitube Plug-in from Winamp.com.

Plug-in Description...

People nowadays live 99 lives and what is a life without music!

I have been following this new website, Secondlife which lets me live a different life on the internet. It lets me become a pilot, DJ, surfer - anything I want to be. Tinkering with it, I found that we can stream music into it. It lets you link up a server where from you can stream audio into the secondlife environment. Winamp provides a great platform of streaming through SHOUTcast and I thought 'Why not use SHOUTcast and stream some music and make my Secondlife more interesting? I even found a cool video uploaded by one of our esteemed users.

One part genius. Three parts llama. And a sprinkling of corporate AOL. That's what Winamp is all about.
