Hello llama lovers and welcome to another installment of Llama Answers. We continue to get a lot of feedback, keep it coming. It is very useful and helps us improve Winamp everyday. Below are answers for some of the more popular questions and feedback we have received over the past week. Remember, when submitting feedback to be as specific as possible, the better we understand your questions or suggestion the more we will be able to help. Additionally, a lot of answers are in our forums. For new comers to Winamp there is a great section in the forums called "Tech Support Greatest Hits", where we have found 90%+ of questions or issues are resolved.

Supported Windows Operating Systems

We continue to get a lot of questions about supported versions of Windows, especially about the different versions of Vista and the upcoming Windows 7. We support all official versions of Vista but do not yet support Windows 7 (but we have been playing around with it). Here are some resources to help with Windows support: Winamp Supported Operating Systems, Vista FAQ and a list of Windows Vista forum topics here

Global Hot Keys

How can I turn off the hotkey's for playback? I can only disable the global hotkeys... I want to make my 'V' button no longer stop my music. How do I do that?

You can easily customize, override or remove the default hot keys (as you are requesting) for playback, all in the same preference pane. Got to Options -> Preferences -> Global Hot Keys and make sure 'Enabled' is checked. Now you can add additional hot keys or change the key strokes for the list of 'Actions' displayed. If you highlight the Action, click the 'Remove' button and make sure there are no other hot keys combinations specified for that action, then even the Winamp default hot key will no longer work. Therefore, to specifically address your request, remove the 'Playback: Stop' Action and 'V' will no longer stop the player. If you mess up or want the Action back, just click Restore defaults and all your Actions and defaults will be reset.

Português Favor (Portuguese Please)

I want to know why in the name of God you don't have a Brazilian Portuguese translation for Winamp 5?

You prayers may soon be answered... very soon in fact, like now. We are releasing three new language packs for Winamp this week, Brazilian-Portuguese, Turkish and Romanian . A big shout out and thanks to the Winamp community for helping us create these new versions. We now support 18 languages for Winamp due to the efforts and loyal dedication of our fantastic Winamp user and developer community. Checkout all of the languages supported by Winamp.

Sleep tight little llama and sweet dreams...

Please, can you make to new version this function: When finish last song in playlist turn my PC off, I want use this when I go to sleep.....please do it.

THX your team!

Nothing like going to sleep to some mellow tunes, but in a energy conscious world you don't want your machine to run all night. Also, how many time have accidentally had 'shuffle' on and jumped out of bed when you advanced from Jack Johnson to Cannibal Corpse, I hate when that happens. You can automatically shut down your computer with Winamp at the end of the playlist. Select and start playing your favorite playlist, right-click the Stop Playback button, 'On end of queue' and then select the option you want Winamp to do at the end of the playlist: Stop Playing, Close Winamp, Shutdown, Logoff Restart or Suspend. You can also check 'Use setting only this time' which will keep you from accidently shutting down your computer the next day when a playlist ends while you are in the middle of writing a long document J We have had a previous post on this topic as well.

Turn off my remote

How long do you send the 'remind' to install Winamp remote? I don't want the remote. How do I get rid of it?

Winamp Remote is a separate application from the Winamp Client that is added, if elected, at installation. If you decide later that you no longer want it, you can uninstall it without affecting the Winamp Client's performance in any way. In Windows go to Programs -> Winamp Remote -> Uninstall. You can always reinstall it later by going to Winamp.orb.com.

Album Art

I like the new "Get Album Art" feature. I would like to be able to have a browse feature to attach an album cover that I have stored on my hard drive. I found that the search feature wasn't able to find some album art, but I was manually able to. If it were possible to then choose the stored file that would be really good.

The new "Get Album Art" feature is pretty convenient, allowing you to right-click on the llama placeholder image and search for album art to add for the album automatically from Winamp. However, this feature is more full featured when you right-click on the track itself in your Media Library and select 'File Info'. Go to the 'Artwork' tab and notice the buttons that allow you to Load Artwork (browse your machine), Paste Artwork (from the clipboard), Download Art (same as the Get Album Art right-click command). Right now you have to do this per track, but we are working on more improved batch album art features in upcoming releases.

Thanks for all the feedback, keep it coming.

Happy New Year from the Winamp Team! We are so excited about the coming year and the plans we have. 2009 for us is a year of change and opportunity. We plan to add new features to both the Winamp Client and website in the coming year that will significantly improve the experience for users and will expand the tools available to developers to create custom versions and extensions of Winamp. We feel that this will be one of the most significant years of growth for the product and hope that you will follow our progress and upgrade to the newest versions with as much excitement as we will have in releasing them.

I personally have learned so much about Winamp in the last couple of months. You see... I am new to the team and my role as Executive Director is to manage the product and technical teams to bring new features and services to the Winamp community. I have worked with the team to design an aggressive roadmap that will serve our users and developers in new and better ways. I will be posting on the blog from time to time to bring you updates on the state of the roadmap and other Winamp initiatives.

One of the greatest assets of Winamp is you and the other members of the Winamp community, both users and developers alike, and we want your voice to be heard. In addition to watching the Winamp forums and comments on this blog, we have added direct feedback links to this Blog, Winamp.com, the Winamp client and dev.winamp.com. Please use them. While we may not be able to respond directly to all feedback, we DO read it all. We have already collected a lot of great ideas, keep 'em coming.

More to come soon...
Best, Geno

One part genius. Three parts llama. And a sprinkling of corporate AOL. That's what Winamp is all about.
