950 million people accessed the Internet last month, according to comScore, 21% more than at this time last year. Europe, Asia and Latin America all added more users in the past year than North America did. Forget mobile phone usage, this is just Internet access from a PC. The Internet has merged with broader globalization trends.

The same is true for Winamp. Did you know that last month, 76M people around the world used Winamp? That's 24% more of you than at this time last year. That's 1 in 12 Internet users. That's a lot of llama. Winamp's profile too, has merged with the same globalization trends, North American usage did not contribute much to our growth last year. This has made us take a slightly different approach to our business, and as such, we will continue to provide support for additional languages. Look for more in the next couple of months. Let us know if you are interested in helping with translation for languages we don't officially support yet.

Users all over the world use Winamp to perform lookups against their media files for artist, album and other information. What Winamp users are looking up, and where, is fascinating. Last month. the most popularly looked-up artist in Germany was Die Ärzte, in India it was A.R. Rahman, in S. Korea it was ??? ??? and in China it was ?? in the UK it was the Ministry of Sound, and in Italy is was Vasco Rossi.

Now, I am a North American user. I Winamp near Washington DC. I Winamp mostly while I am at work. The artist I looked-up most last month was the Shins. Where do you Winamp?

One part genius. Three parts llama. And a sprinkling of corporate AOL. That's what Winamp is all about.
