By now you've likely seen or heard about the new Winamp.com redesign. If not go check it out! A big thanks goes out to all of the blog and forum users who contributed ideas and suggestions. Basically, the new site is built around a wider frame with an updated layout, graphics and color scheme. Just like the old site, the new site has a ton of content & Add-ons but we just made it easier to navigate and find what you're looking for. On top of the new look and feel, we built out the functionality as well.

One of the first things that you'll notice is the new Twitter module prominently displayed. That way you can stay in the loop about the latest release and Winamp news. We also offer links out to Winamp-related pages on other popular social networks such as Facebook, MySpace, Orkut, etc.

One of the biggest changes is that in the past Visualizations were a subcategory of Plug-ins, but as promised we have now introduced Visualizations as their own unique type of Add-on - http://www.winamp.com/visualizations/. So now there's a total of four types of Add-ons: Skins, Plug-ins, Visualizations, and Online Services.

You'll also notice a major upgrade in the search functionality. Rather than searching for a specific Skin, Plug-in or Visualization, we now have a consolidated search across all types of Add-ons (Online Services will be added in a future release). No matter what your searching for... let's say you like the color blue, use the new Add-ons search to see Skins, Plug-ins, and Visualizations pertaining to 'blue'.

We've also streamlined the download experience. Since there are so many options, we have now made it easier to find the exact version of the Winamp Media Player you're looking for. One of the slick new features is that the download page will auto detect your browser and language settings. All information related to the players are categorically laid out so that users can find out about almost anything related to the Winamp Media Player software. Try it out - http://www.winamp.com/player/.

Other enhancements include a one-stop-shop for all Winamp Help Documentation. It's a Wiki based Help section so it can be easily updated and in the future we will be opening it up for translations in various languages. Also, for all of the monsieurs & mademoiselles out there, we have just launched a new version of the Winamp French Portal.

Finally, we wanted to let everyone know that this is just the beginning. Stay tuned for future enhancements & functionality to Winamp.com.

On Monday, we told you about the new sleeker Winamp.com which we will be unveiling soon! The new design will make it even easier to download Winamp, customize your media player and to get help.

Now here's a sneak peek of what the new design will look like. Leave a comment below to tell us what you think!

Winamp.com Redesign

Winamp.com is getting a few "nips & tucks" so we'll have a new sleeker meaner machine of a site to unveil very soon. Here's what's coming ....

The Winamp Client's companion website, Winamp.com, has been redesigned to make it easier to download Winamp, customize your player and get help.

First there will be much better tools for searching and browsing Winamp "Add-ons". You must be wondering what are Add-Ons? Add-ons are the "stuff" that you can add to your Winamp Media Player to customize it - like skins, plug-ins and visualizations. We are now calling these collectively Add-ons, because we are also introducing tools that search across skins, plug-ins, visualizations and online services, see how it is all coming together... Add-ons Search. Pretty cool huh. It will be much easier now to search and browse across the 6,000 plus available Add-ons (there is that word again) with one search term. Look for the new Add-ons search in the search box at the top of the site, you won't be able to miss it.

But wait there is more... since Visualizations are so popular (we have almost 3,000 of them) we have broken them out and given them their own section. They deserve it. Look for their new home in the nav-bar after the release.

The new Winamp.com will also include a completely updated Media Player Help section based on the popular and easy to use wiki reference format. There will be great tools for searching and browsing through the massive library of Winamp help topics, FAQs, tutorials and articles. You will find the new Winamp Media Player Help on the nav-bar too.

For those of you who prefer to speak French, we are releasing an updated version of the Winamp French site as well. Check out fr.winamp.com for the new French Top Artist and Song charts and buy Winamp PRO in French too. Merci Beaucoup :)

Last but not least, the Winamp Media Player Download page has been completely redesigned to more easily help you select the version of Winamp that is right for you (there are so many), the page will even detect your browser's language settings for a more guided download experience.

The unveiling is coming soon.... Visit http://www.winamp.com to check it out!

This is just the beginning ... gear yourself for the bigger and nastier sequel coming soon in December 2009.

Check out the new "Winamp Add-ons" Online Service. It allows you to browse, search, and download new Skins, Plug-ins, and Visualizations from right inside your Winamp Media Player. It uses the same galleries that you can find on Winamp.com.

Skins - http://www.winamp.com/skins
Plug-ins - http://www.winamp.com/plugins

Winamp Add-ons should come as a default Online Service, but if you don't already see it listed under Online Services in your Media Library tab:

1) Click on "Online Services" in the left nav
2) Search for "Winamp Add-ons"
3) Click on the +Add button

Then tell us what you think by participating in our Winamp Focus Groups!!!

We appreciate all of the input you've provided on the blog, in the forums, as well as the feedback you've sent directly to us. It's been great! In fact, we continue to develop new features and enhancements based on your input, so please keep it coming!

HOWEVER, we'd like to try something new. Rather than getting feedback AFTER the product or feature has been shipped, we'd like to give you the opportunity to provide feedback BEFORE anything heads out the door. As a result, we plan on having several Focus Groups, where we meet directly with core Winamp users to preview new concepts and designs before they get added to the product.

Our first meet-up will be in a few weeks (September 9th) and we need your participation! The Focus Groups will be held online via Tokbox (www.tokbox.com) - which is a free web-based audio & video chat service that will allow us to communicate and share our presentation online (there's no download required).

Ideally, each session will be about a half hour long and will include about 5-10 users. If you don't get selected for our first session, there will be additional opportunities in the upcoming months.

Welcome once again to another installment of Winamp Answers. In this edition we're going to focus on new Winamp Pro users. From the feedback we've been getting there are some users having trouble getting started with Pro. The below trouble shooting tips are courtesy of DJ Egg (from our Winamp Tech Support Forum) and help to address some common issues.

Tip 1:
After you've downloaded the latest version of Winamp Pro, be sure to enter in your registration key correctly

Go to: Winamp -> Options -> Prefs (Ctrl+P) -> Winamp Pro -> Enter Registration Info

From your confirmation e-mail enter (or copy & paste) the exact customer name used to register into the top field, and the exact 20 digit registration key into the bottom field (be sure to include the hyphen/dash) . If you copy & pasted the information, make sure there are no trailing spaces.

Example:
John Smith
12345-ABCDE-FGHIJ-F3F21

Click OK.

Winamp Pro Registration Page Screenshot

Tip 2:
If you are still not able to access Winamp Pro, what version of Windows OS are you running (eg. WinXP sp3 32-bit, or Vista 64-bit, etc.)? To identify your operating systems go to: Start -> Right Click My Computer -> Properties -> General (Tab)

If it's Win 2000/XP then make sure you are logged into Windows with an admin user profile and not a limited user profile.

If it's Vista or Windows 7 RC, try the following:

- Close Winamp
- Right-click the Winamp desktop icon and select: Properties
- Go the "Compatibility" tab
- Checkmark "Run this program as an administrator"
- Checkmark "Run this program in compatibility mode for: Windows XP sp2"
- Click OK
- Reopen Winamp, and try entering the reg key combination again.
- If it now works, you should be able to undo the compatibility settings for normal usage & operation of Winamp.

Tip 3:

If you are experiencing other general issues, check out our previous editions: Winamp Answers 1, Winamp Answers 2, or check out the Winamp Support blog post for a list of general support related links.

Winamp 5.56 is now available... so you can Orgle to your heart's content!
New in this release is the Winamp OrglerTM which powers the Charts experience. Check it out...

What's a Winamp OrglerTM?
The Orgler lets you track, chart and share your Winamp listening history.

What does that really mean?
Each time you listen to a song through Winamp, while the Orgler is enabled, it sends the basic metadata (e.g. song name and artist name) associated with that file to Winamp. Currently the Orgler only supports local media playback, but not streaming playback (internet radio), however we are currently in planning for future enhancements. The Orgler is a community driven feature so the more you & your friends use it... and the more time it has to grow... the more robust it will become. We're pretty excited because with the size of the Winamp community worldwide, it has the potential to cover so many styles of music, in so many places.

Am I automatically Orgling?
Nope, you are not automatically Orgling. To start, you need to do two things. First, you need to download Winamp 5.56 which already includes the Orgler plug-in (technically, you can use 5.5x & download the Orgler plug-in separately but it's recommended that you just use the latest and greatest). Secondly, you need to log-in using your Winamp.com username & password. Don't have a Winamp.com username & password? No problem... you can register here.

Why should I Orgle?
You see, the Orgler is just the beginning. Once you've signed-in and started Orgling, we can feature the eclectic musical tastes of the Winamp community. The Charts, available in both the media player & on Winamp.com, allow you to stay on top of the latest trends by seeing which songs and artists are popular. View worldwide charts or filter down by a specific country or time period. You can even view your own listening history by selecting "My Charts" (media player feature only) to see what you've spent your time listening to today, this week or last month.

How do I add Charts to my Winamp Media Player?
To add Charts to Winamp, go to your media library tab and select "Online Services". Then browse through the "Featured Services" or you can use the online services search box. Once you've found "Winamp Charts" in the gallery, simply click the "+Add to Winamp" button.

Watch the below video for a quick demo & tour:

The developers over at Moviefone just created a pretty slick Online Service for watching Top HD Trailers from right inside Winamp. To add the Online Service to your Winamp player, click on the Media Library tab and select Online Services. Once you're in the gallery you can either browse by category, most popular, or recently added. But in this case, you know exactly what you're looking for, so you can just use the search box and type in "Top HD Trailers".

Winamp Online Services Gallery

When you've found the Top HD Trailers Online Service in the gallery, simply click the "+ Add to Winamp" button to add this online service to your Winamp. Now thanks to the Moviefone team, you're ready to watch the latest HD trailers.

Moviefone Top HD Trailers Online Service

While in the gallery be sure to check out other Online Services. If you're interested in learning how to create your own, read the post about Winamp's Online Services beta program. It has a lot of information for developers and shows you where/how to get started.

We're reaching out to all of the blog readers to ask for your participation in testing a new Winamp plugin that will send your listening history to Winamp so that we can build some sweet new features that will allow everyone to see the eclectic musical tastes of the Winamp universe.

More specifically, the Winamp team is working on a future release of a "Charts" experience within the Winamp Client and on Winamp.com, where users can view the most popular songs & artists being listened to across the Winamp user base (and you'll also get a slick web based presentation of your own listening activity).

The Charts experience leverages music listening data which is collected via the Orlger plug-in. Each time you listen to a song through Winamp (while the plug-in is enabled), it sends the basic metadata associated with that file to Winamp. Currently the plug-in only supports local media playback (streaming playback may be available in a future version).

To help make this project successful, we need your help; a) so you can report any issues with the plug-in functionality, and b) so we can start filling up the database w/ your musical tastes (even Yanni fans can participate).

If you're interested, please check out the below instructions:

Step 1
Be sure you are using Winamp version 5.5 or later. Download the latest version

Step 2
Make sure Winamp.exe is not running

Step 3
Download the Plug-in from - http://www.winamp.com/plugins/details/221993

Step 4
Install the Plug-in.
- After the plug-in is installed, open (run) Winamp
- The Winamp Preference window will be opened to the "Orgler" section.
- Click on Login. You will be required to sign-in using your Winamp.com (or AOL/AIM) account information. If you're not registered go to the following URL to set-up a new account - https://new.aol.com/productsweb/?promocode=825431

Step 5
Since the Winamp Charts page hasn't launched yet, you have two ways of verifying that the Plug-in is reporting your listening history:
- In your Winamp directory, you can see the data recorded to the "orgler.log" file - (C:\Documents and Settings\[USERNAME]\Application Data\Winamp\orgler.log)
- For those less technically inclined, you should try this options instead.... since the Winamp Charts & Profile pages haven't launched, in the meantime you can go to www.music.aol.com/profile and you'll be able to view your 10 most recently played songs. You'll need to log into the AOL Music Profile page with the same account information you used when you installed the plug-in. By default the AOL Music profile page is set to private. If you want to allow others to view your profile (and listening history), you can change the setting to public

Step 6
The final step is to listen to your Winamp media library as often as possible. Be sure to leave a comment below:
- Let us know if you're participating in the beta program and from which country you'll be listening
- Once you've had a chance to use the plug-in, please provide feedback (your experience, issues, bugs, enhancements, etc.)

We hope you take this opportunity to be one of the early adopters. Your support is appreciated and with your help, we look forward to launching this new feature.

As you may be aware, we are in the process of upgrading Winamp.com to a more robust and secure registration and authentication system.

This new authentication system will also support "Screen Name Service" (also referred to as "SNS"), which is owned and operated by Nullsoft's parent company, AOL LLC ("AOL").

This is the first of many steps Winamp is taking to offer other authentication methods and this upgrade will enable some pretty exciting new Winamp features... stay tuned to the blog... more information to follow.

So what does this all mean to Winamp.com users? For the most part, these upgrades will not change your login. You can continue to use your existing Winamp name and password at the current login page. In some cases, you may need a new account if your password was not secure (see Winamp.com Password Update). What does change, is that your Winamp account will provide you with access to additional AOL products and services.

Once the new user identity system is launched, the only action required on your part, is that the first time you login with your new SNS-enabled account, you will be required to agree to AOL's terms of service (TOS) and privacy policy, which governs your use of SNS. If you happen to be a current AOL user, and registered for Winamp with your AOL or AIM screen name, then you can use your existing AOL screenname and password to log into Winamp.

--------------------------------------------------------------

***Clarifications posted on 14-May***

We are seeing some comments about the log-in system we just launched and we want to clarify a few points. This log-in upgrade does not affect the Winamp Media Player, and no additional software applications are being installed. This change is only related to the log-in on Winamp.com, as the previous system did not support the new features we have planned.

Additionally, Winamp did not change owners. AOL has been Nullsoft's parent company for 10 years and during that time Winamp developers have had the flexibility to produce great features and will continue doing so. Leveraging the AOL log-in system allows the Nullsoft team to focus on what we do best... building a great media player.

If you have any specific concerns, please send us a note at support@winamp.com with the subject line "NEW LOG-IN".

Just wanted to give everyone a heads-up that we're making some changes to our backend authentication system on Winamp.com (more information to come). As a result, we will now require Winamp.com users to have a password that contains between 6-16 characters.

If you happen to have a password that's outside of this character range, you will be receiving an e-mail indicating that you need to update your password prior to Wednesday, May 6th 2009. If you do not update before then, you will no longer have access to that account.

Just to clarify, the update will only effect your Winamp.com password, and not your Winamp Forum, or Developer Network passwords.

Thanks!

Password Tips

Your password should be easy for you to remember, but not for others to guess. If your password can be easily guessed, your account is not secure.

To protect your account, change your password to incorporate these easy rules:

1) Make your password at least 6 characters in length (but not longer than 16).
2) Create a password that includes a combination of numbers and letters (e.g., lx556w or beljar2 or 12hat93).
3) Do NOT use your first name, your screen name, or obvious words that are found in a dictionary.

For additional protection, change your password regularly.

An online service is a web page embedded inside the Winamp software and the best part is that it interacts with Winamp to create a great user experience. To develop one go to http://dev.winamp.com/online-service-developers.
Minimum requirement to use Online Services is one should have Winamp version 5.55 (or higher).

To Add Online service:

1. Click on the Online services link present under the Media Library
2. Browse the gallery. Choose from 'Featured Services', 'Most Popular' services or 'Recently Added' services and browse through different online services
3. Or, Choose categories of your choice by clicking on the Category drop-down and select a category. Then browse through all the online services available under that category.
4. Click on a particular online service and one can see the details about it
5. To Add to Winamp, Click on 'Add to Winamp' button and the service gets added
6. To start using the service, click on 'Go To' button

Check out cool Online Services like Shoutcast Radio, AOL Radio, OurStage Radio, Spinner, Songbook Lyrics etc. and have fun!

Hello llama lovers and welcome to another installment of Llama Answers. We continue to get a lot of feedback, keep it coming. It is very useful and helps us improve Winamp everyday. Below are answers for some of the more popular questions and feedback we have received over the past week. Remember, when submitting feedback to be as specific as possible, the better we understand your questions or suggestion the more we will be able to help. Additionally, a lot of answers are in our forums. For new comers to Winamp there is a great section in the forums called "Tech Support Greatest Hits", where we have found 90%+ of questions or issues are resolved.

Supported Windows Operating Systems

We continue to get a lot of questions about supported versions of Windows, especially about the different versions of Vista and the upcoming Windows 7. We support all official versions of Vista but do not yet support Windows 7 (but we have been playing around with it). Here are some resources to help with Windows support: Winamp Supported Operating Systems, Vista FAQ and a list of Windows Vista forum topics here

Global Hot Keys

How can I turn off the hotkey's for playback? I can only disable the global hotkeys... I want to make my 'V' button no longer stop my music. How do I do that?

You can easily customize, override or remove the default hot keys (as you are requesting) for playback, all in the same preference pane. Got to Options -> Preferences -> Global Hot Keys and make sure 'Enabled' is checked. Now you can add additional hot keys or change the key strokes for the list of 'Actions' displayed. If you highlight the Action, click the 'Remove' button and make sure there are no other hot keys combinations specified for that action, then even the Winamp default hot key will no longer work. Therefore, to specifically address your request, remove the 'Playback: Stop' Action and 'V' will no longer stop the player. If you mess up or want the Action back, just click Restore defaults and all your Actions and defaults will be reset.

Português Favor (Portuguese Please)

I want to know why in the name of God you don't have a Brazilian Portuguese translation for Winamp 5?

You prayers may soon be answered... very soon in fact, like now. We are releasing three new language packs for Winamp this week, Brazilian-Portuguese, Turkish and Romanian . A big shout out and thanks to the Winamp community for helping us create these new versions. We now support 18 languages for Winamp due to the efforts and loyal dedication of our fantastic Winamp user and developer community. Checkout all of the languages supported by Winamp.

Sleep tight little llama and sweet dreams...

Please, can you make to new version this function: When finish last song in playlist turn my PC off, I want use this when I go to sleep.....please do it.

THX your team!

Nothing like going to sleep to some mellow tunes, but in a energy conscious world you don't want your machine to run all night. Also, how many time have accidentally had 'shuffle' on and jumped out of bed when you advanced from Jack Johnson to Cannibal Corpse, I hate when that happens. You can automatically shut down your computer with Winamp at the end of the playlist. Select and start playing your favorite playlist, right-click the Stop Playback button, 'On end of queue' and then select the option you want Winamp to do at the end of the playlist: Stop Playing, Close Winamp, Shutdown, Logoff Restart or Suspend. You can also check 'Use setting only this time' which will keep you from accidently shutting down your computer the next day when a playlist ends while you are in the middle of writing a long document J We have had a previous post on this topic as well.

Turn off my remote

How long do you send the 'remind' to install Winamp remote? I don't want the remote. How do I get rid of it?

Winamp Remote is a separate application from the Winamp Client that is added, if elected, at installation. If you decide later that you no longer want it, you can uninstall it without affecting the Winamp Client's performance in any way. In Windows go to Programs -> Winamp Remote -> Uninstall. You can always reinstall it later by going to Winamp.orb.com.

Album Art

I like the new "Get Album Art" feature. I would like to be able to have a browse feature to attach an album cover that I have stored on my hard drive. I found that the search feature wasn't able to find some album art, but I was manually able to. If it were possible to then choose the stored file that would be really good.

The new "Get Album Art" feature is pretty convenient, allowing you to right-click on the llama placeholder image and search for album art to add for the album automatically from Winamp. However, this feature is more full featured when you right-click on the track itself in your Media Library and select 'File Info'. Go to the 'Artwork' tab and notice the buttons that allow you to Load Artwork (browse your machine), Paste Artwork (from the clipboard), Download Art (same as the Get Album Art right-click command). Right now you have to do this per track, but we are working on more improved batch album art features in upcoming releases.

Thanks for all the feedback, keep it coming.

Hello to Winamp users. We have been receiving a lot of feedback from you - queries, suggestions and we love them all. Since the number of such feedback is huge, we thought we'd regularly reply your queries through our blog by consolidating them. This is the first one of such posts. If you're submitting feedback to us, please be as specific as possible about your issues, ideas, or comments. The more detailed the feedback, the easier it is for us to respond to it.

MP4 video playback

I am trying to play mp4 video files on my win amp, and am having no success. The audio will play, but not the video. I've installed the latest version of win amp pro. I've looked for a plug in, but there are none. Am I doing something wrong?
I would like to use the winamp for this, for it is by far my favorite player.

The mp4 decoder (h.263) is not bundled with Winamp. We recommend you read the following forum thread for information on plug-ins: http://forums.winamp.com/showthread.php?threadid=155680#mp4v

Winamp for MAC

Hello, i just saw in the net that winamp has a version for mac, and i was even given a link to download "WinAmp 0.71" but i dont see such an application neither a trace on your web page... Do you really support a mac version???

Currently, we don't have a Winamp player for MAC users. We will make sure to let everyone know if a MAC version is released. However, we are launching new features in a few weeks for all our users and specially for those who can't use Winamp because of their operating system. Please do check our website for updates.

Media Library Syncing

I have Winamp installed on 2 computers - the pc at home and my potable laptop. I manage my music through rating and i was wondering if and how i can sync the 2 libraries?

We don't have a media library syncing facility as of now. However, a quick solution is Winamp Remote (http://www.winamp.com/extras/remote/)

Winamp on Vista 64

Unable to install your player on Vista 64-Home Premium?
Compadability issues no fix at windows

Winamp does work in Windows Vista 64 - Home Premium. Winamp is supported on Vista 64 and should install properly. We need more facts to help debug this further. Request you to let us know the following:
1) Is it an official/registered version of Windows 64?
2) Is it fully updated with latest security patches and other updates?
You can try right-clicking the installer, selecting 'properties' > then... compatibility tab > checkmark 'run program as administrator' and 'run this program in compatibility mode for: Win xp sp2'
For quicker response, please make sure you send us your query in a more detailed manner as mentioned in http://forums.winamp.com/showthread.php?threadid=161361#specs. This way we will know the exact problem in a more specified manner.

International Radio Stations

Currently i am trying to listen to some international radio stations on the internet , and winamp is not working, and i know it's not my computer because i have a third 3 rd radio station that is playing ok not through Winamp

We have two catalogues of free radio stations in the form of Online Services - AOL Radio and SHOUTcast Radio in Winamp. Please click on Online Services in Media Library and add SHOUTcast and AOL Radio to your Winamp

DivX playback

I have a lot of divx videos on my computer, and winamp can't either find them or play them, is there something you have that would let me play them and possibly convert them to files that will play on my Ipod?

Go to File->Add to Media Library and choose the folder which has your Divx videos. Then click ok. You can see your video files on the Media Library->Local Media-> Video tab. You can play DivX files only if you have the decoders. Free 3rd party decoders are easily available. Regarding conversion to Mp4 format which can be playable by iPod, you have to download 3rd party encoders for it.

Fonts and style

Please let me know where do I go in Winamp to change The title Winamp to ets say Winamp 5 etc., etc. also to change the font style for for the player as well as the numbers which shows the time of the song as it playing the son list and the background list?

Unfortunately, you can't change the title of your player. However, you can go to Options->Preferences->Playlist to change the font style and size. You can also toggle the time remaining as well as time elapsed by clicking on the time. However, you can't change the font of the time display.

Languages

You added Chinese, Korean and other languages BUT NOT ARABIC CHARACTER BASED LANGUAGES namely Arabic, Swahili, Persian, Afghani, Urdu, Malayan...etc

We want Winamp in all languages, martian if possible :) However, we need translators and we badly need them. If you know anyone who can translate, please write to ben.london@corp.aol.com and we'd surely help you out to translate your favorite player.

Got a problem, and can't find a solution?

If you are experiencing problems that cannot be resolved using any other method , then a clean install may do the trick. Follow these instructions http://forums.winamp.com/showthread.php?postid=1212729#clean to do a clean install of Winamp.

Note: If you are just upgrading to a newer version of Winamp 5.x then you can just install straight on top of the previous version of Winamp 2.x or 5.x (but not Winamp3), thus keeping all your current settings etc.

We're proud to announce the Beta launch of our new Online Services Developer Program. This new program allows developers to build great web experiences that can be accessed by the +70MM monthly Winamp client users.

The program is currently in Beta, but we've provided you with everything you need to get started developing your own Online Service for Winamp. Check out the Winamp Developer Network for the latest documentation and downloads that you'll need.

Once you've developed your service, it's just a few quick steps to submit the service to Winamp. Once approved, your service will be added to the Online Services Gallery, where millions of Winamp users will have access to your service.

This is just the beginning of this program. We look forward to your feedback and seeing the great Online Services that you'll develop. If you have any questions about the program, we recommend you check-out the Online Services Program Forums.

One part genius. Three parts llama. And a sprinkling of corporate AOL. That's what Winamp is all about.
